Making Lowell an Art Community

QR code to application

The Maggie Osgood Library in Lowell OR has received a grant from the Oregon Arts Commission to support “Making Lowell an Art Community.” This will be a hands-on project where artists will work with members of the community to create art projects. Artists include full and part-time professionals as well as accomplished amateurs.

Examples

  • an artist who specializes in watercolor painting would teach participants how to paint a specific scene. Materials such as paper or canvas, brushes, and paint would be supplied.
  • a musician would teach participants how to sing a particular song or play a particular instrument
  • an artist might teach participants how to create a clay tile.

Artists will receive a stipend. Supplies needed for the project will be provided. Compensation for the artist and supplies will average $500. The events will take place monthly in the spring and fall of 2026. The events will be marketed to adults, but teens will be welcome as space allows. Most events will have up to 12 participants, which is the maximum number that will fit our space. We will consider larger activities that could be held at the local Grange Hall or High School. We intend to hire eight separate artists.
Artists who are interested in participating are invited to apply. Applications should include an artist’s statement, and a description of the art project they would present.
Each selected artist will be responsible for working with the Library Director to plan a visit to Lowell during which the artist will speak about their art form and work with members of the public to create artwork.
